No protection for goths

Some people argue that Jericho should become a conservation area. Rather than listing individual buildings this would protect the general character of the area, giving the City Council extra controls over demolition, the protection of trees and minor developments, allowing it, for example, to prevent people removing Jericho’s distinctive ‘gothic’ windows, or erecting large satellite dishes on the front of houses. The Council’s conservation officer responds however that “whilst we acknowledge that Jericho has a certain character, we do not believe designation is appropriate in this instance”.
