In memoriam

Margaret Scarsbrook - Margaret, who died in her 90's, and whose funeral was at St Barnabas on March 27, was 'real Jericho'. She was born here in Dawson Place and when her home was scheduled for demolition she moved to Victor Street. She spent her life caring for others; first her mother and sister, and then several other people in the Parish. She was also famous for her preserves and cakes which for many years were a highlight of the Church Fête and much sought after by local people. Margaret was an independent lady with a lively Christian faith, strong opinions and a realistic assessment of people and events. She will be sadly missed.

Edward Kwiatkowski - Better known as 'Eddie the Pole', he lived in Wellington Street for many years and was well known to local people as a courteous man with very regular habits. As a young man, Eddie had been made by the Nazis to work in Auschwitz for 5 years. He lost his family and came here after the war, working at OUP. He was a regular member of the Polish Club and endeared himself to many people in Jericho.

Arthur Whiting - Arthur, who lived in Wellington Street, was a butcher in the Covered Market for many years and was known to many people through his business. He was a devoted husband and father. His wife died some years ago. Our sympathy goes to his two sons.
